Safetysphere : A ground Breaking FEMTECH SRHR initiative in Sierra Leone

SafetySphere: Empowering Women Through Digital Health and Rights Awareness

In an era where digital innovation is transforming access to healthcare and education, SafetySphere stands out as a pioneering platform dedicated to empowering women through knowledge, support, and resources. Founded by Break the Silence in collaboration with UNFPA Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Youth, and led by Alimatu Maliaka Jalloh, SafetySphere is a web-based application designed to educate women about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) while providing interactive tools to enhance their well-being.

Bridging the Gap in Women’s Health Education

Women and girls often lack access to reliable information on reproductive health, leading to misinformation and limited healthcare choices. SafetySphere addresses this challenge by offering articles, chat support, AI-driven tools, and health resources in a user-friendly web application built with modern web technologies.

One of its key features is a Symptom Checker that helps users assess side effects of contraceptives and provides recommendations, such as seeking medical attention. By integrating AI-driven support, the platform ensures that women can make informed health decisions regardless of location or socio-economic background.

AI Chatbot with Local Language Support

SafetySphere has already developed an AI-powered chatbot, providing users with instant responses and guidance on reproductive health and rights. To further enhance accessibility, the chatbot is being upgraded to understand and communicate in local languages, ensuring that more women can benefit from the platform regardless of their linguistic background. Additional features are also being integrated to improve user experience and engagement.

A Safe Space for Women

Beyond health education, SafetySphere fosters a supportive community where women can access guidance on menstrual health, contraceptive options, and sexual well-being. The platform also includes chat support, enabling users to connect with experts for personalized advice.

Global Expansion and Future Goals

While founded in Sierra Leone, SafetySphere aims to expand its impact globally. Due to limited grant opportunities locally, Alimatu is actively seeking international partnerships and funding to scale the platform. The goal is to develop a comprehensive digital hub, expand AI chatbot capabilities, and launch a mobile application to further enhance accessibility for women worldwide.

Recognitions and Support

SafetySphere has already gained recognition, securing a small grant from the Ministry of Youth in Sierra Leone in partnership with UNFPA sierra Leone as part of the Young Women in Innovation Challenge. This support underscores the platform’s potential in addressing critical gaps in women’s health and rights education.

Join the Movement

SafetySphere is more than a web app—it is a movement for women’s empowerment. By providing education, digital tools, and community support, it seeks to break barriers and foster informed decision-making for women across different backgrounds.

To support or learn more about SafetySphere, follow its journey on social media and stay updated on new developments. Together, we can create a world where every woman has access to the knowledge and resources she needs to thrive.
